Murata has opened a new factory in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province to increase MLCC production capacity

Murata Manufacturing Co., a leading global manufacturer of electronic components, held a ground-breaking ceremony for its new factory in Wuxi, Jiangsu province, on 12th. After the new plant is put into operation, the capacity of Murata chip multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCC) will be further improved.

Murata holds 40 percent of the global MLCC market, which is used to stabilize the internal current of electronic devices.

Currently, MLCC demand from smartphones is slowing down due to sluggish global smartphone sales. But in the medium to long term, Murata believes MLCC demand is expected to grow as pure electric vehicles (EVs) and 5G mobile phones become more widespread.

It is estimated that a smartphone uses about 1,000 MLCC, a car uses about 3,000 MLCC, and a pure electric vehicle supporting "Level 3 (L3)" autonomous driving needs to use more than 10,000 MLCC.

Murata started an investment plan for a new MLCC plant early this year to cope with medium - to long-term demand growth and increase production efficiency.

The total construction area of the new plant is about 51,000 square meters, and the total investment of the first phase is about 2.55 billion yuan (RMB, the same below). At present, Murata has a total of 6 production plants in 2 factories in Wuxi, and this new factory project will build a seventh production plant.

After the completion of the new factory project, Wuxi Murata Electronics Co., LTD. (hereinafter referred to as "Wuxi Murata") will double its sales to a total of over 20 billion yuan. Murata also hopes that on the premise of improving MLCC production capacity, it will continue to introduce new products and promote product development and innovation.
